Once Yugoslavia split up, there were many small countries that came from that. One country was Bosnia and the leader was Josip Broz Tito. He was able to control everyone in the country. He kept the various religious beliefs, and ethnic backgrounds from going against one another. Tito passed away in 1980, and that's when everything started to go to flames. Politicians in the area were turning the Turks, Serbs, and Croats against one another. This resulted in the Serbs committing a large massacre killing of the Croats and Turks. There were 200,000 reported death and over 20,000 people are still missing today.
When talking about what goes on within a genocide or what starts a genocide, people aren't aware that genocide is still taking place today. This is something that goes on most likely everyday somewhere in this world, mainly because of various religious beliefs and ethnic backgrounds. Many people want to react and help with what is happening all over the world. Others sit around and don't care, so that's is why nothing much is getting done about genocide. When the Bosnian Genocide was taking place, very little was done to help the victims of that genocide. Even though nothing was done while it was gong on, there was 160 committed crimes convicted after the fact.
I feel that genocide is something that needs to be taken care of no matter where it is in the world. If there is genocide there, chances are they will bring it into the United States. Therefore if we don't help the other countries then they want help us if we are ever in need of help or active support. When wanting to help prevent a genocide, there isn't much you can do at the government level. You can get on website that is made for helping to put an end to genocide.
