After surveying 20 high school students, I found that about 30% of the students did not know the meaning of a genocide. Of those students who were aware of what a genocide is, only 1/3 of them believe that we can stop genocide or prevent it from happening in today's world. When asked "why should we care if we stop genocide in other countries", everyone agreed that we should care because it is wrong to kill people and that the lives of people in other countries are just as important as the lives of Americans. Many also mentioned that if we don't care about other countries, it could eventually happen here. In response to the question, "how do you think genocide can be stopped", most students said they really did not know how it could be stopped. A few said that the way to stopping it was to fight back and kill those who are responsible. Some said the answer is to bring people together, but my favorite responses were those that said we need to get people together with love in their heart and more importantly bring these people to Jesus.
